HELLO FROM MIKE BARFIELD
Hello and welcome to my website. I write and draw funny non-fiction and activity books for young people, many of which have been translated and published in over a dozen different languages!
I am also an award-winning cartoonist, with a regular slot in the satirical magazine
Private Eye for nearly a quarter of a century.
In addition to all that, I am also a comic poet specialising in performing funny poems for children, with lots of laughs and audience interaction.
I also do school visits and workshops to encourage children to write their own poems and jokes and perform them with confidence.
If all that wasn't enough, I also do funny family-friendly science shows suitable for all ages based on my
Destroy This Book series of activity books, plus my very special
SWAT! show, all about fly biology, where I dress as a giant housefly!

My funny and informative book
The Element in the Room was illustrated by the equally brilliant Lauren Humphrey. It is all about the Periodic Table and has comics and facts about every known chemical element! It was shortlisted for both the Blue Peter Best Book with Facts and the Royal Society Young People's Book Prize in 2019. Look out for a sequel in 2021!
